Welcome to your next edition of the Greendale Times, our regular update of what’s going on around Brookvale – Curl Curl Scout Group.
As usual it is comes from me (Rock, Group Leader) and Tracey Kew (President). Wrap up from our 2010 AGM Firstly I would like to thank everyone who attended our Annual General Meeting on 29 May. It is great to see and catch up with the many parents who support their Scout Group. I would also like to welcome those who were either elected or re-elected to take on roles around the Group. Thank you. Sowhat did you think of our AGM? Some have already given me some constructive feedback. Thanks. Please drop me an email if there was something you particularly liked or something you think we could improve on next year or do differently. If you weren’t one of the lucky ones to walk away with a copy of our annual report fear not, we have uploaded it to our website. As Ian Bower (District Commissioner, Northern Beaches) said, it is the BEST annual report he has ever seen! Share it with your friends and be proud of your group. New Members We are continuing to invest new youth members into our sections, this is a testament to the leadership of group. On behalf of the Group I would like towelcome the following new members to the Group: Jordan and Stirling to Joey Scouts and Alicia, Robert, Harrison and Teaghan to Venturer Scouts. A number of youth (sorry too many for me to know without forgetting someone) have linked recently and appear to be enjoying themselves in their new section. Upcoming Activities We have two whole of group activities coming up over the next few month. They include our annual trolley push which is part of Scout Job Week, an activity notification form has already been sent for this. The second activity or event (if last year is anything to go by) is our trivia night on Saturday, 30 July. Last year we had 90 people for about 10 teams in a battle of wits. Flyers will soon be put up around the hall for this. It costs $15 per scouting family. There are two lucky door prizes, one youth and one adult, as well as prizes for the winningest team. Please make sure you RSVP when the times comes as we may I would hate for you to miss out as we may exceed capacity this year. Special Mention I attended the Sydney North Region AGM on Saturday and would like to recognise Sebastian Gordon and Shannon Higgins who both received special mentions in the SNR annual report. Sebastian as a recipient of the Grey Wolf Award (Cub Scouts) and Shannon for assisting with the Australian Contingent at the NZ Jamboree in January 2011 and taking on the role of Mindari Leader. B.R.A.V.O.O.O to both of you. Philip Ruddock (Federal Member for Berowra) was one of the special guests and he spoke of the import roles Scouting plays in developing today’s youth. During his speech, he reminded me what Scouting is all about – teaching today’s youth the values we as a society hold so dear (and expect them to live by). It is these values such as helping other people, doing their duty to Australia and their God, doing their best, that youth learn at Scouts to encourage the social, emotional, intelligent, physical and spiritual development of youth. Everything we do at Scouts has this end in mind. From the Committee Thanks to all those who attended the AGM and voted the committee in. We appreciate your support. We still need to fill the following positions:
Stephan (Group Leader) and Tracey (Group President) Thanks to everyone who helped make our Annual General Meeting a success. We reduced printing costs this year and only put a few copies of the annual report together. You can download your copy here (link).
I would like to confirm that your committee for 2011-2012 as follows:
