The Southwest National Park is so remote there are no roads. The only way to access the start of the track is either by boat or plane.
We started with a 6am flight from Sydney to Hobart, then change to a 10 seater plane for the flight from Hobart to Melaleuca. We topped up our water at the airstrip and then an easy 12km hike through the valley to the beach near Eric Point and our first campsite. The weather was warm and sunny, so we all enjoyed a walk along the beach in bare feet and then a quick swim in the surf. The campsite was amongst the trees near the beach. Fresh water came form a lake right next to our campsite.
The beaches are hard packed fine white sand. Very nice to walk on, even with boots.
We invested venturers Naomi and Pippa on the beach at dusk. A very special location for the ceremony.
