The big bike sleepover was a fun way to spend a night at the hall and cover the requirements of the Level 2 Cyclist badge. In addition the Cubs also cooked dinner over an open fire and signed off that Boomerang task.
The weekend started at 9am on Saturday where the technical and safety aspects were covered. Everyone created their Riding Log Book, learned road and safety rules, changed flat tyres and generally gave their bikes a tune up and clean. It was pouring with rain, so after lunch we had bike games in the hall - riding in a straight line, stopping accuracy and a slow race.
When the weather cleared we headed off on our long ride, from the hall in Brookvale, to the cycle track at Curl Curl, then along the coastal track to the headland near Harbord Diggers and back again.
Dinner was cooked over the open fire, then marshmallows, and of course a suitable bike themed movie, in this case "BMX Bandits" starring a young Nicole Kidman. A lot of the movie was filmed around this area and it was fun to see places we had ridden that day and old shots of Manly Wharf and Warringah Mall.
Next morning we were up early and after breakfast off for a few laps round the bike track at Brookvale Oval. We waved to all the other cyclists out for their Sunday morning rides.
