, An 8 day, 85km trip across the bottom of Tasmania on the iconic South coast Track from Melaleuca in the south west to Cockle Creek in the south east for Venturers and older Scouts. The party consisted of five Venturers, four Scouts, 4 Leaders and two other adults.
The South Coast Track lies within the Southwest National Park and takes you through the heart of over 600 000 hectares of wild, inspiring country. It is remote and there are steep and rugged sections of track which can be challenging for inexperienced walkers. There are no roads to Melaleuca, so walkers must fly, take a boat or walk in and out. The Parks & Wildlife Service manages the park and has maps and other online information at www.parks.tas.gov.au
Our final night was spent at Base Camp Tasmania, where we enjoyed a shower, fresh food, and a proper bed before flying home the following morning.
