Over the October long weekend a small hike out along the Wolgan River from Newnes .
Day 1 would see us explore the old coal mining village and coke ovens before continuing the hike down to the Rocky Creek junction and camp overnight.
On the Sunday we started out on track continuing down the Wolgan river in search of the Totem Pole. A conglomerate rock and clay pillar with a capstone that seemingly defies gravity. After running out of trail, we continued across country down as far as Annie Rowan Creek before time (and the kids energy reserves) ran out so we had lunch and returned back to our camp at Rocky Creek, not quite reaching our objective. A chance to go back and do it again :)
Day 3 was a fairly straightforward return of our day 1 journey however the scouts were a little more weary & struggled a bit more. A great part of the world to explore and a fantastic weekend away
