Sirius Cup is an annual Scout Regatta, held at Balmoral each year. Our Cubs and Scouts, along with about 1000 others camped at Balmoral Oval for the weekend.
We arrived on Saturday afternoon and spent most of it setting up our campsite. Dinner was Iron Man Food (pizza) followed by a movie.
First up Sunday morning was the Iron Scout event. Cubs had to do one lap of the oval, then run down to the pool and swim one lap and run up onto the beach. Second place went to James, with many of our cubs also participating. Scouts had to do two laps of the oval, followed by two laps of the pool. None of our scouts entered this event, preferring to cheer on the competitors over their breakfast cereal! In the leader section Rikki came a creditable second after running three laps of the oval and swimming three laps of the pool. She was well in front heading into the swim leg, but ended up a few metres behind at the finish line.
The cub canoe events consisted of age races with two (C2) or four (C4) paddlers. None troubled the scorers in the finals, although we had a few places in heats. Perhaps our best result was a clear second place in the C2 8 years race to Jamie and Jasper, only to be disqualified for not having their hats on! Baloo and Skipper came in fourth in the leaders race following a great recovery after capsizing at the start (along with 4 other canoes).
Thanks to the parents who came along to assist. An event like this requires a lot of co-ordination and it all went off very smoothly.
