Like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, the northern end of the Kosciuszko National Park has many peaks, gorges, caves, pools and rivers to explore. This trip started by driving to the gate on Pocket Saddle Road and a short 5km walk to Pockets Hut. We stayed here for two nights, exploring the region around the hut.
Following this we headed towards Blue Waterholes, stopping about 2km short of there to find a lovely campsite on a grassy knoll with plenty of trees and brumbies running down either side of it. Another two nights here exploring the nearby gorges and caves.
Finally heading back towards the cars and another two nights at Oldfields Hut. A side trip from here to Mt Bimberi bagged the highest peak in the ACT for those that hadn't done it before.
Back to the cars and head home. We stopped at Yarrangobilly Caves and did a quick cave tour followed by a swim in the thermal pool. Then a nice drive along the Snowy Mountains Highway to Yass and home.
