Sydney North Region Cub Snow Trip - 8-9 October 2011
11 Cubs, leaders, parents and siblings from our group headed to the snow with 40 others from across Sydney North Region. Leaving Sydney on Friday evening made for a late arrival at the Scout Alpine Adventure Base at Jindabyne. Saturday's program consisted of driving to Charlotte's Pass for a first time snow experience, then off to Perisher to tackle front valley on toboggans. After lunch there was a shopping trip in Jindabyne for souvenirs, then back to the base for dinner and an early night for exhausted cubs. The weather started out sunny, and as we left Perisher there was a heavy shower of rain, then sunny again back in Jindabyne. On Sunday the group headed to Thredbo. It was raining heavily in the village, but as we headed up to the Eagle's Nest on the Crackenback chair lift the rain turned to snow. At the top there was 10cm of fresh snow on the ground, which allowed snowmen to be built and excellent snowballs. After lunch we returned to Jindabyne to pack and head for home. A big thanks to Akela Sue from 1/2 Harbord for organising and running the trip.
