The word of the day is MUD! We have what looks like an easy climb over the South Cape Range, which a peak about of 460 metres. It turns out there is a bit more up and down, with all the downhill sections being rainforest. The rainforest sections tend to be very wet, with a lot of tree roots and mud. In many places there is no option but to go straight through the mud. There are places where the mud is more than knee deep.
South Cape Rivulet is a nice wide stream and we take the opportunity to wash off the mud and cool our feet. The lead party misses the campsite at South Cape Rivulet, apparently one of the nicest on the track, and so we head on an extra two km to Lion Head. At least the last day will be a shorter walk.
